October Newsflash

The latest parish council meeting was held on 10th October (no meeting held in September).  Here are the highlights:

Development Site updates:

  • The resurfacing of Harrier Way will hopefully commence January 2023.
  • Discussions about the allotments continue, but no further update at this time.
  • The plans for the community building are still not approved, it is proving difficult for Crest to provide a building that meets the needs of the village within the price cap and a meeting between the architect, the Parish Council and Stroud District Council is planned.
  • The adoption of phase 1 public open spaces is still under discussion, once the outstanding issues have been resolved the phase 1 public spaces will be transferred to the parish council via Stroud District Council.
  • It remains the parish council’s hope that it will be able to adopt the community facilities in phases 2-4 and negotiations with Crest continue.

Highways updates:

  • A38 junction works are still pending approval by Atkins on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council.  The works have been agreed in principle, but a Section 278 needs to be signed off.
  • Grant application was submitted to provide Vehicle Activated Signs to remind drivers to reduce their speeds in the village, no update yet.

Events:

  • The Teddy Bear Picnic was well-attended and it was great to see so many families enjoying the event.

Other matters:

Governance – a new Co-option Policy was agreed.

We are pleased to welcome Kevin Thorne as our new Councillor.  We were fortunate to have three good candidates come forward for the vacancy and hope that the unsuccessful candidates will remain involved with the Parish Council and stand in the elections in May 2024.

Grant application for two defibrillators has been approved and the purchase and installation are now planned to provide two publicly accessible defibrillators in the village – one of which will be sited outside the school, the other will be in Phase 1 subject to approval by Crest.

Community Governance Review: Stroud District Council plans to conduct a review of several parishes; this includes review of parish boundaries, the numbers of councillors on the parish councils, potential warding etc.  The first stage of the public consultation will commence November 2022.

Upcoming events:

  • Christmas Fair – 3rd December.

Council meetings are held on the 2nd Monday evening of each month at the Hunts Grove Primary Academy, please check website for agenda and meeting papers.
