What are the proposals?

Hunts Grove Parish Council was formed in 2020 with 5 councillor seats, the first new parish council in Gloucestershire for 40 years. It is essential that the council prepares sufficient resources to conduct its planned business and mission. As part of our planning, the council has determined that it would like to expand the number of councillors from the planned elections in May 2024.

  • Hunts Grove is one of the fastest-growing villages in Gloucestershire. Every month, new properties are being completed and new residents are moving in. By May 2024, it is expected the number of residents will exceed 3,000 and ultimately this will be over 8,000 when the village is complete.
  • The council considers it important that we have enough councillors to support an expanded workload and activities as the community grows. In addition, whilst any resident is welcome to apply to become a councillor, we do look for representation across the different development areas. Our latest councillor joining the council resides in the latest development Phase 3 for example.
  • The council is developing its “One Hunts Grove” strategy, a key part of which is to take over the open spaces and amenities management from the Management Company / Preim Limited. Whilst operational work will be done by paid employees under the direction of our excellent Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer, the council will need a larger councillor team to provide financial and procurement oversight, planning, and engagement with residents.
